Aromanis is sourced by Klasik Beans cooperative from Garut district in West Java, Indonesia. This lot is coming from Pait Kilengser’s farm in mount Guntur, northwest of Garut.

Indonesian coffee is known as the base for espresso blend because of its body, and round and nutty flavour profile. However, this is not the case with this coffee. This coffee is unique. As the coffee is processed, the producers smell the vivid aroma of cotton candy, hence the name “Aromanis” is derived. In Bahasa Indonesia, it means aromatic and sweet.

Commonly, smallholder farmers sell their coffee to the cooperative. The cooperative then processes the green beans and sells them to the green buyers or directly to coffee roasters. Klasik Beans is one the cooperative. It was started in 2009 by Eko Purnomowidi, Deni Glen and Hamzah Robert. They saw the great concern on forest exploitation in West Java and believe that planting coffee trees is the solution.

Currently, Klasik Beans have over 2,000 members and nine processing centres in West Java, Sumatra, Bali, Flores and South Sulawesi. Each year Klasik beans allocate a large percentage of their profit to reforestation, conservation and bonuses to coffee farmers.
